Dr. Oz Praised The Raspberry Ketone Diet, But Does It Work?
By Nicole L., Guest Contributor
I’m one of the many people who, after seeing Dr. Oz’s segment on Raspberry Ketones, made a mad dash to several different GNC stores in a quest to get my hands on some. I had gained about 15 pounds over the past year, and the ketone diet looked promising. Unfortunately, it was sold out… at all three stores!! Exhausted and annoyed, I decided not to bother. Besides, I had read a few mixed reviews on its effectiveness and wasn’t sure it was worth the money.
A few weeks later, I got a very excited call from my cousin who went on and on about how she was losing so much weight on the ketone diet. My interest was once again piqued. When I went to the site, I saw that they offered several different packages. I had to choose between:
I ordered the 30 Day Program, because it was the cheapest. The package arrived the next day, but I waited until the following Monday to start. I needed time to read over the materials and to mentally prepare myself.
The Plan
The instructions said to take 20 drops under the tongue twice a day. Along with the Raspberry Ketone supplement came a 1200 Calorie Diet plan–they recommended 4 small 300-calorie meals a day. I wasn’t pleased to see that.
My Experience
Day | Observations |
---|---|
Day 1 | I started the plan on Monday May 21, 2012. That morning I weighed in at 150 pounds. I took the drops first thing in the morning and then again about 30 minutes before dinner. However, I did not follow their 1200 calorie plan! I wanted to see what the drops would do without a diet, because I’m pretty sure I would lose weight on 1200 calories with or without the drops. I ate as I normally would, but I noticed that I was not as concerned about food as I usually am. It curbed my appetite. |
Day 2 | I weighed in at 149.5, which was half a pound less but I knew that weight fluctuates for a lot of reasons so I didn’t celebrate. |
Day 3 | 148.5. By the morning of Day 3, I knew that the ketones were having an effect. Without meaning to, I was eating less than I usually did. |
Day 4 | 148 |
Day 5 | No change. |
Day 6 | No change. |
Day 7 | 147 |
Day 8 | 146.5. So after one week, I had lost a measly 3.5 pounds, which was a far cry from what my cousin experienced. So beginning Week 2, I added 30 minutes of speed walking 3 times a week. Still wasn’t ready to start counting calories. |
Day 9 | 146 |
Day 10 | No change. |
Day 11 | 145! |
Day 12 | 144.5 |
Day 13 | No change |
Day 14 | 144 |
Day 15 | 143! My 2 week loss was 7 pounds, but it seemed like I had also lost a lot of inches. I was happy, but I was getting tired of taking the drops. However, I bought a 30 day supply and didn’t want to waste money. I was determined to get through 30 days! I decided to step it up a bit, so I reduced my calories to 1500 a day. I used the MyFitnessPal app to keep track of my calories. |
Day 22 | 137 pounds! When I reduced my calories to 1500, the weight began coming off a lot quicker. I lost 6 additional pounds in one week! |
Day 29 | 134 pounds! I only lost 3 pounds on the 4th week. |
Day 31 | Final weigh in was 133 pounds. The good news is that I lost a total of 17 pounds in 30 days! The bad news is that when I stopped the drops, my appetite picked back up and I regained about 3 pounds. It’s been almost one week since I stopped and the scale seems to have settled. I plan to give it another go in August. I’ll let you know how it goes! |
